College of Control Science and Engineering (CSE) at Zhejiang University (ZJU) invites applications for tenure-track or tenured faculty positions and in the broad areas including Industrial Intelligence and Optimization Control, Robotics and Intelligent Unmanned Systems, Cyber Security and Safety for Industrial Control Systems, Smart Sensing and Measurement etc.

 

Position 1: Professor

Four core areas of research are open for Professor positions:

 

1.1. New-generation high-end control systems

industrial control system chip, industrial software, industrial big data, knowledge automation, large-scale system optimization, distributed coordinated control, intelligent manufacturing, smart factories, etc.

 

1.2. Safety and security of critical infrastructures

industrial control system security, industrial internet security, cyber security, intrusion detection and assessment, security protection and defense, fault diagnosis and health management, industrial control secure protocols of industrial control systems, secure algorithms, cryptography, etc.

 

1.3. Intelligent robotics and autonomous systems

sensing devices and analytics, smart imaging and environment perception, motion planning and control, multi-agent coordinated decision, deep learning and computational intelligence, autonomous driving and future transportation, etc.

 

1.4. Intelligent systems for carbon reduction and efficiency enhancement

renewable energy technologies, intelligent measurement and instrumentation, monitoring and prognostics, optical detection, micro-nano devices and instrumentation, biological and quantum sensing, measurement and control for quantum computing, etc.

Position 2: ZJU100 Young Professor 

Fifteen research areas are open for ZJU100 Young Professor:

 

ZJU100 Young Professors refer to those who have tenue track positions in high-level universities, or who have widely acknowledged research achievements or potential. The positions are on tenue track with opportunities to apply for tenured faculty positions.

2.1  Edge Computing and Intelligent Systems

We seek candidates with research interests in but not limited to hardware architecture for edge computing, energy-efficient circuit and system development, context-aware edge computing, full-stack hardware and software design for edge AI, edge intelligence system implementation and deployment, and other related areas. Suitable candidates should have solid skills in mathematics, circuit and algorithm design, and strong system development capabilities.

2.2  Research & Development of security analysis equipment for industrial Internet of things

We seek candidates with research interests in system security analysis, testing and verification, and etc., key technologies and equipment development of typical security-related industrial internet, such as security analysis of firmware, protocol, programming framework and logic program, penetration testing, automatic exploit generation, security risk quantitative assessment, online monitoring and response,  and other related research. Suitable candidates should have a solid theorical foundation in system security, and strong engineering capabilities. Better with work experience in but not limited to USRP, P4 and etc.

2.3  Industrial AI

We seek candidates with interests in research on basic theories and key technologies, such as intelligent perception, optimization control, and precise diagnosis of such as the iron and steel manufacturing process; research on advanced control equipment and industrial software development, to support the deep integration of industrialization, informatization and intelligentization in the iron and steel industry.

2.4  Network Science and Big Data

We seek candidates with research interests in theoretical research and system development of network science and big data, including comprehensive performance analysis of network systems, network big data mining, spatio-temporal big data analysis, streaming data analysis, real-time database, and other related areas. Suitable candidates should have solid skills in mathematics, circuit and algorithm design, and strong system development capabilities.

2.5  Robot Swarm Systems

We seek candidates with research interests in but not limited to autonomous agents, human-computer integration, multi-agent collaboration, and swarm systems. Suitable candidates should have solid theoretical foundation in and strong engineering capabilities with high-quality research results in the related areas such as AI, embedded system, mobile computing, robotics. 2.6  New Computing Architecture

We seek candidates with research interests in but not limited to compiler optimization, edge micro-architecture, highly reliable storage, new computing and control architecture, new industrial control computing system. Suitable candidates should have solid theoretical foundation in and strong engineering capabilities with high-quality research results in the related areas such as computer architecture, circuit design, embedded system, signal processing, controller design.

2.7  Measurement Techniques and Automatic Devices

The research interests focus on the discipline of Measurement Techniques and Automatic Devices, including but not limited to robot sensing techniques, microfluidics and microsensors, process measurement and automation instruments, information processing and soft sensing, nondestructive testing of complex parameters as well as environmental monitoring and early warning, etc.

2.8  Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) and Micro-Robots

Facing the urgent need of improving sensation and perception capabilities in Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) and micro-robots, the department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of next-generation MEMS sensors/actuators and micro-robots. Applicant should have exceptional knowledge in all areas of MEMS fundamentals, design and simulation of MEMS devices, microfabrication, synthesis of smart materials, and design of micro-sensors/actuators. We seek candidates with strong research backgrounds in one or more of the following areas: micro-sensors, micro-actuators, and micro-robots.

2.9  Process Simulation and Optimization: Algorithm and Software Development

To study the high-quality, environmental, safe, and intelligent operations in process industry, we seek candidates with strong background in process systems engineering, especially the process simulation and optimization algorithm, and process modeling software development.

2.10  Biosensors and Bioanalytical Instruments

The successful candidate will be required to carry out research and industrialization of biosensors and bio-analytical instruments. Applicant should hold a Ph.D. Degree in biomedical engineering, biophysics, analytical chemistry, materials chemistry, biochemistry, neurobiology, synthetic biology, or other relevant disciplines, and have research and teaching experience in biochips such as bioelectronic devices, microfluidics chips.

2.11  Flexible Sensors

Based on the development of human-machine interaction and human-machine collaboration technology, this position focuses on the various soft sensors (e.g., capacitive sensors, resistive sensors, piezoelectric sensors, and triboelectric sensors) design and fabrication, also including soft sensing applications in the fields of soft robots, surgical robots, rehabilitation robots, sports-assisting robots, collaborative robots, etc.

2.12  Intelligent Mobile Computing Platform

The successful candidate will be required to develop the chip system for mobile robots, which is optimized for the performance of intelligent robotic algorithms with low power consumption, to leverage the mobile robots in long duration missions, and translate the robots to real-world key applications in important fields. Applicant should have experience in chip architecture design, computational modeling and architecture design, collaborative design of hardware and algorithm, and the integrated design from sensor to signal processing, etc.

2.13  Global Optimization Solvers and Distributed Computation

For enhancing the technical and theoretical advantage of mathematical programming computation, we desire researchers who is experienced and talented at fields like operations research, mathematical programming, process system engineering, distributed computation, etc. The researchers are expected to achieve goals like:  Creating advanced deterministic global optimization solvers for linear programming, mixed-integer programming, or mixed-integer nonlinear programming; Studying distributed optimization theories for large-scale optimization problems; Developing industrial level solutions or frameworks to handle NP-hard decision-making problems from manufacturing, logistics, financial applications; Teaching courses about distributed optimization or mathematical programming computation.

2.14  Cyber Security and Safety for Industrial Control System

The successful candidate will be required to carry out research and development on vulnerability analysis, verification, evaluation, defense and protection for industrial control system of national key infrastructure security. Applicant should hold a Ph.D. Degree in cyber security, cryptographyfuctional safety, automation or other relevant disciplines, and have research and teaching experience in  vulnerability analysis or evaluation, cryptographyfuctional safety assessment or design.

2.15  Intelligent Decision in Robotics

Integrate control theory, operational research and artificial intelligence. Focus on the research of intelligent control, planning and decision making of robots and multi-robot systems, based on the theory of feedback control and mathematical optimization, taking advantage of artificial intelligence and other computer technologies. Improve the intelligence of multi-robot systems at the system level.

2.16  Control and Optimization in Electric Vehicle

To meet the research work in our group, the candidates are required to have academic and working experiences in the following areas: power electronics, automation, electric vehicles technology, transportation, smart grid and other related areas. The research interests can contain wireless power transmission for electric vehicles, battery management systems, control and optimization of microgrid, and intelligent transportation. Moreover, the candidates are expected to develop the applications of the related technologies in electric vehicles.

2.17  R&D, calibration and fusion of integrated multi-sensor equipment

To meet the 3D perception and autonomous navigation requirements of intelligent mobile robots, autonomous driving, and mixed reality, design and develop intelligent perception units that integrate multi-sensor and multi-source information. Conduct research on high-precision, robust, and efficient multi-modal perception methods, for boosting critical applications in important areas. The specific directions include the design and development of integrated multi-modal intelligent perception units, integrated localization and mapping, multi-sensor probabilistic fusion, online self-calibration of sensors, multi-modal learning, optimal state estimation, etc.

2.18  Intelligent learning for robots

Learning for whole body planning and control of humanoid/legged robots, learning for mobile manipulation in complex environments, learning for decision making in long-horizon and high-dimensional tasks, etc.

2.19  Industrial data intelligence and comprehensive security

Engaged in research related to industrial big data and equipment comprehensive safety, including equipment intelligent operation and maintenance based on industrial big data analysis, product performance monitoring and backtracking optimization, control system performance evaluation and safety, industrial control safety and other technologies, as well as application and promotion in energy, chemical, steel and other key industries.

2.20  High-end equipment industrial software

It has the research foundation of industrial big data modeling and analysis, and focuses on key research fields such as power generation, steel, metallurgy, chemical engineering, and research and development of high-end equipment industrial software with independent intellectual property, including operation condition monitoring, traceability reasoning and decision-making, control system security monitoring, data visualization and other key directions.

2.21  Hybrid modeling and optimal control of intelligent manufacturing

Considering the huge demand bottleneck and talent gap of intelligent manufacturing hybrid modeling, especially the international frontier and commanding point of integration research on hybrid modeling, optimization and control of advanced control equipment safety system. The focus will be on the new generation of hybrid intelligent modeling technology combining mechanism modeling of major equipment system with artificial intelligence and big data, and the key core technology of integration research on hybrid modeling, optimization and control, so as to systematically improve intelligent manufacturing automation and intelligent level of advanced control equipment system in biopharmaceutical, metallurgical energy, etc. Specific research directions include hybrid intelligent modeling with simultaneous mechanism and data, integrated design of intelligent modeling and optimal control, new-generation biopharmaceutical intelligent manufacturing, new-generation metallurgical energy intelligent manufacturing, etc.

Position 3: Research Fellow 

 

Applicant should be under the age of 38applicant with senior professional title could be under the age of 40holding a faculty or research position at a high-level international university, or at a prestigious research institution or company, or with considerable academic level (postdoctoral experience is preferred).
